Web Consulting.

Let’s be clear, I am not a web designer

I have an understanding of digital architecture - but the aesthetic of this site is hardly grand design. What this is-is practical and replicable.

If you want somebody to make and maintain a modern presence for you, something with all the bells and whistles, I'm not your guy. But there’s certainly tools and knowledge I have access to, that I can provide access to. Simpler ones like what I used to build the page you’re on now - and more complicated architecture I host over my own server from right here in the valley. Over the years I’ve heard various levels of interest and offers for this so here it goes. If you want me to work with you on a site, I'll make it straight-forward;

It's $750-$1000.

I'm not competitively priced, because I’m not a web developer. Web development is a full-time job in itself, complete with with its own liabilities & security concerns - it’s never really as simple as “just a small site with a few pages”. So, what I offer is more akin to "Consulting”, the $750 is just the roughly 8+ hours it often takes to build out groundwork of someones web-presence & show them how to use it. After that, if you need help expanding or updating the site down the road I'll happily assist, but that's a case by case thing - and the point is you're not dependent on me for each small alteration.

(The original Tech12 homepage hosted from my server. It's a good example of a more powerful site design, because it was far more complex than necessary.)

Over the years I’ve found better and better ways to approximate the look and feel of those expensive subscription based web-hosting outfits in a more DIY kind of way. I've sought out and even created utilities for a more simplified and streamlined experience because I knew it could be made easy. More importantly I’ve sought better ways to do so safely and reliably. It used to be necessary to have some degree of technical know-how if you wanted access to remotely user-friendly design tools without the privilege of indefinite monthly "hosting" fees. Now-a-days though, I can confidently tell you that absolutely anyone can do this stuff if they're given the right tools and have a little help setting it all up.

Look, web development has become a full-time job in itself; it can be complicated, expensive, and very long term to offer reliable hosting options. I can't commit to maintaining a web-presence for everyone who needs one. What I can do is show you how to get around the obstacles that are preventing you from just creating and hosting yourself; Because, I get it, not everybody can afford to pay somebody a full-time salary just to get a website up. If you need a site, but can’t afford to get locked into some subscription hosting service; or if you just wanna know how web development works. If you don’t need all the bells and whistles, maybe even prefer something more practical. If you up for doing the design and maintenance but just aren't sure how to start, or simply want someone to show you the 'lay of the land' and point out the likely pitfalls or complications so you can more forward with confidence.

Sure, I can show you how to do that.

It's probably easier than you think, once you know what to do.

("Anyone can do this if given the right tools."

It's more straightforward then most people think.)
